Dr Bhatelia is a chemical engineer by training and senior research academic from WA School of Mines, Minerals, Energy and Chemical Engineering at Curtin University. He is the inventor of SpiroPak, a revolutionising gas-liquid contactor technology, for energy-efficient chemical processing. Prior to joining Curtin, he worked at CSIRO and The University of Melbourne, where he developed two other patented process technologies that are also being commercialised.
He has over twelve years of experience in translational research and works very closely with small and large resources companies to develop novel technological solutions. During the current COVID-19 crisis Dr Bhatelia lead the team of researchers and students to develop open-source Emergency ventilators and Isolation hoods for emergency responses using locally sources parts and resources. He has won several awards, including, 2020, Research industry engagement and impact award and his technology SpiroPak, was an overall winner of the Curtin innovation award in 2019. He has a broad range of expertise, which include process development and optimisations, modelling and simulations, and additive manufacturing.
