Curtin University is bound by the Privacy and Responsible Information Sharing Act (WA) 2024 and has voluntarily committed to the Australian Privacy Principles under the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth).
The University publishes a Privacy Policy and Privacy Procedures that apply across the University community — including staff, students, controlled entities and everyone taking part in University business or activities such as West Tech Fest, whether as a visitor, service provider, contractor or volunteer.
Through the festival we collect the information you provide when you buy a ticket or pass (payment is processed by Megatix under its own terms), register for an event, submit a satellite event, subscribe to festival updates, or contact the team — typically your name, email, organisation and any details you choose to share.
You may request access to, or correction of, the personal information held about you at any time by contacting the University’s Information Disclosure Compliance Officer, who will manage the request under the Freedom of Information Act 1992 (WA). Requests concerning information about individuals other than yourself are managed under the University’s Disclosure of Personal Information Procedures or the Freedom of Information Act, depending on the circumstances.
With your consent, your personal information may be used to contact you — by phone, email, SMS or mail — about events, services, facilities or courses that may be of interest to you, or to advance the University’s legitimate functions under the Curtin Act.
You can withdraw that consent at any time by using the unsubscribe link in any communication, or by emailing the relevant administrator to have your details removed.
Personal information is stored in hard copy and electronically, and third-party storage providers located in Australia or overseas (including Europe, the United Kingdom, the United States and the Asia-Pacific region) or in the cloud may be used. Information is retained in accordance with the State Records Act 2000 (WA).
All reasonable and appropriate steps — security, organisational and technological — are taken to protect your personal information from misuse, interference, loss and unauthorised access, modification or disclosure. Any actual or potential loss of personal information is handled under the University’s Information Breach Policy and Procedure.
Concerns about your privacy, or an actual or suspected information breach, can be raised directly with the University’s Privacy Officer using the contact details below. Anonymous complaints can be lodged in writing, or by phoning the Privacy Officer to discuss your options.
If your complaint relates to a breach of the Information Privacy Principles and you are not satisfied with the response, you will be provided with information and avenues to have that outcome reviewed.
